Peak Colorado quality with some of Colorado’s lowest costs.
Professionals from all over the nation are discovering what we’ve always known—Craig is Colorado’s best value, promising a quality of life that rewards in every way, including:
Recreation
With over 2 million acres of public land in Moffat County, Craig puts you in the center of a nationally beloved recreational paradise just 40 miles from the ski slopes of Steamboat Springs.
There’s a ski resort inside the 1.2-million acre forest, but there are also seven wilderness areas offering peak outdoor adventure for campers, hikers, and mountaineers.
Canoeing and kayaking are excellent on the Yampa, and the Little Yampa Canyon Recreation Area offers a dramatically satisfying recreational experience of canyons and valleys and wildlife for viewing, hunting, or fishing. Juniper Canyon offers Class II, IV, and V white water runs. And located near the bank of the Yampa, Juniper Hot Springs accommodates visitors with bucolic ease and a warm soak.
Water fun, from kayaking to jet skiing to fishing and more, is only one attraction of the 900-acre Reservoir. Hunting, camping, hiking, and horseback riding are also popular activities.
The Sand Wash Basin is famous as the home of one of the nation’s few remaining herds of wild mustangs. Visitors can also roam across the approximately 250 miles of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management; primitive camping is allowed here, as are off-road vehicles.
Moffat County is home to two of North America’s largest herds of migratory elk; Craig lays claim to the title of the “Elk Hunting Capital of the World,” and hunters who return, year after year, would agree. This region is also a prime spot for hunting antelope, deer, and small game.
Spreading across more than 200,000 acres, Dinosaur National Monument is a truly timeless treasure. Visitors can see more than 1,500 dinosaur fossils exposed on a cliff face; petroglyph sites are also easily viewed. However, visitors are also drawn to the recreational riches—hiking on trails and cross country, camping, and river rafting on the Green and the Yampa Rivers.
